Plastic Surgery Trends Across The World Varies Place To Place
While the U.S. ranks #1 in cosmetic procedures performed, other countries are a close second..but not necessarily do they all focus on the same things to enhance in order to bring about that “ideal” version of themselves. From differences in cultures and religions, perceptions of beauty can vary drastically from one end of the spectrum to the other.
What Procedures Do Countries Outside the U.S. Focus On?
Places such as Indonesia and Afghanistan have only recently warmed up to the idea of surgically altering your body for cosmetic reasons. In China, leg refining procedures to help tone muscle and reduce the appearance of cellulite are most popular. In Brazil, butt augmentation reins as the queen of cosmetic procedures. A large and sculpted buttock personifies a woman’s femininity and sexiness.
What Is The Most Popular Cosmetic Procedure in America?
In America, breast implants are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. According to the ASPS, over 300,000 breast procedures were performed in 2017. America’s society and clothing influences play a direct relation to this popular procedure, much more so than in other places around the globe where more revealing clothing is not as socially accepted. America’s aesthetic ideal now seeks a medium to large size breast that still looks natural.
The average size of breast augmentation is a CC, while the average age for this procedure is 34. A big factor in the recent breast procedure increase is the advancement of silicone gel breast implants, or more endearingly referred to as the “gummy bear” implant.
Mexico On The Rise
Mexico has now become the 5th most popular country that is seeking various cosmetic procedures, according to ISAPS. Over 900,000 cosmetic procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, were performed in 2016.
Europeans And The Dimple Free Body
Europeans, especially the French, are willing to go to all sorts of lengths to have smooth and toned legs and buttocks. From creams and lotions to cellulite reducing massages, they are experimenting with everything, to gain that carefree body that looks like it has been obtained through regular exercise and a balanced diet. In fact, popular procedures in America, such as Endermologie and lonithermie, originated in Europe.
Stem cells that are derived from fat are all the craze in Greece and France in order to reverse the signs of aging. Unfortunately, the FDA has a tighter reign on this and has yet to approve this aesthetic stem cell procedure in America.
The Asian Aesthetic
Historically, Asians have desired a petite, trim body with extra thin legs. So much so, that they have even gone to such lengths as to surgically sever nerves in the legs as well as injecting Botox into them to cause the muscles to shrink. The result is bulk-free calves which is what so many Asians seek. Socially speaking, bulky legs seem to lead to a short height, which is discriminated upon in the workplace. In recent time, however, facial surgery has dominated. The ASPS reports in Japan that an estimated 185k+ eyelid surgeries were performed – while in Thailand, over 21k nose jobs were reported.
Brazilians: Voluptuous & Curvy
Latino women not only want a curvy butt and full breasts but also larger hips! All three of these things are considered aesthetically pleasing. As Brazilians are obsessed with their curvy buttocks, the “Brazilian butt lift” was created that has also taken off in the United States. As of 2017, the number of breast procedures is on the rise but still pales in comparison to buttock augmentations (including liposuction, fat transfer, and lifts).
