Treating Varicose Veins & Spider Veins

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is one of the most popular and well-established treatments for varicose and spider veins today.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure performed in your vascular surgeon’s office under local anesthesia. Many men and women sit back and read a magazine while treated. Your vascular surgeon will inject a solution into the vein causing the vein to swell, collapse and dissipate.

Once blood flow is no longer possible through the vein, it turns into scar tissue or absorbed. The treated vein fades away within few weeks. Your vascular surgeon will operate the larger veins first allowing the solution to feeding into the smaller spider veins. If there are spider veins left you can then treat those with a laser.

Treatments are typically set four to six weeks apart. It’s best to wear compression stockings until all the bruising if there is bruising is completely gone. Your result will turnout much better. Compression stockings help minimize swelling and help speed up healing. Most patients in the south have their veins treated in the fall, winter or early spring not to interfere with summer activities.

Cost of Sclerotherapy

The average cost for Sclerotherapy is $200-$300 a treatment.

Keep in mind, if you are prone to having varicose veins you will always be prone to acquiring more. The veins that are treated will not return, but you will have new ones appear. Sclerotherapy is an ongoing treatment. Usually, men and women make a yearly appointment to keep their legs looking and feeling great!
