Reducing Mental Illness
There is no sure proven method for the prevention of mental illness. However, if you have a mental illness, there are proven methods for reducing them and gaining resilience over them as well as ways to boost self esteem.

Oftentimes, these illnesses are defined as such when they cause enough stress to prevent our ability to function normally.

How Do You Know If It Is Mental Illness?
It’s completely normal to feel some of those signs and symptoms from time to time, but when they get in the way of your ordinary life, it’s usually something more. Typically you begin to feel miserable and things such as school and work are hard to navigate.
With some types of mental illness, such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, you may not recognize anything is wrong on your own, but a family member or loved one may. Most of the time, mental illnesses don’t get better on their own, so it is important to seek a professional right away.
Prevention of Mental Illness
- Get Routine Medical Care: Don’t neglect going to the doctor if you aren’t feeling well. You could have a new health problem that needs attention or you may be experiencing side effects to a medication.
- Pay Attention to Warning Signs: Work with a doctor or a therapist to help develop a plan to better cope and learn what situations trigger symptoms. Also, it may be helpful to consider involving friends and or family to help keep you accountable.
- Get Help When You Need it: It is better to treat symptoms early on to fight off harmful habits early. Long term maintenance is a good way to prevent relapses, or learn what to do if those relapses happen.
