Breast Reduction

Oversized breasts can cause neck, back and shoulder pain and living with them is no picnic. Aside from the constant pain, you can have trouble sleeping and even experience skin irritations or rashes under your breasts or near your bra lines. Large breasts can also make it difficult to find clothing that fits right – not to mention the money you have to shell out for those specialty bras.

Stop thinking about having breast reduction surgery and DO IT or at least have a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. Breast reduction surgery will help you feel more comfortable and confident with your breast size and allow you to do things that you can’t physically do because of your ample bosom.

If your breasts are weighing you down and causing you physical pain many insurance companies will even help you pay for the procedure. You shouldn’t have to live with pain just because you have extra large breasts.

An experienced surgeon can help you obtain a manageable chest size that is in proportion to the rest of your body.

Breast Reduction Procedure

During a breast reduction, also known as a reduction mammaplasty, breast fat, tissue and skin are removed from your breast and reshaped to form a smaller breast size. You will be put under general anesthesia which means you won’t feel any pain during surgery because you will be asleep.

Your surgeon will cut around the areola, down the breast and sometimes under the breast. Your nipple and areola will be repositioned to suit your new breast size. Once your surgeon has reconstructed your breast dissolvable stitches are usually placed. If regular stitches are used you will have to go back in a week or so to have them removed.

Post surgery you may be required to wear a drain for a couple of days to catch extra blood and fluids and a special surgical bra. Recovery time varies from person to person and depends on how well you follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions.

Cost of A Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 depending on your location and the experienced of your surgeon.

However, in some cases, your insurance may cover some of the costs if surgery is needed to relieve other medical conditions.

Suction Assisted Lipectomy

Breast reduction through liposuction is a common cosmetic procedure performed these days.  This procedure results in less scarring and trauma to the breasts, leaving your breast smaller and nicely shaped.

Who is a Candidate for Breast Reduction Liposuction?

The best candidate for breast reduction is a woman who has large breasts with good skin elasticity that consists primarily of fatty tissue.  Some breasts are composed almost entirely of fat, with very little real breast tissue. Women with this type of breast are generally very good candidates for breast reduction through liposuction.  The amount of reduction that can be accomplished with liposuction varies with the proportion of fatty tissue to breast tissue, the degree of fibrous tissue, and the patient’s desire regarding size.

Advantages of Breast Reduction Liposuction

The old method of breast reduction may result in an unsatisfactory shape, inadequate removal of tissue or too much tissue and unsightly scars around your nipple, vertical and horizontal and/or a full nipple slough.

Utilizing “tumescent with or without ultrasonic liposuction”, your surgeon is able to reduce the size of the breasts by up to 30-80% and reshape the contour of large breasts. Skin shrinks back with support, often placing the nipple in its original anatomical position.

Breast reduction through liposuction provides a lower risk of complications, a higher level of patient satisfaction, and a quicker return to normal activities.  Your scars will be approximately the size of a grain of rice and be hidden in the crease of your breasts. Usually, four puncture sites along the breast crease are made to install the tumescent fluid and to aspirate the fatty tissue.  Nipple sensation is preserved, and it usually does not interfere with future breastfeeding.  Patients benefit by experiencing better results, fewer complications, financial savings, and a quicker recovery with virtually no disfiguring scars on the breast!
