How Do Clear Aligners Work?
are special, clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth. They are designed to correct alignment issues and guide your teeth into the proper position using gentle, controlled force.
Your Orthodontist will first examine your teeth, take x-rays and impression of your teeth. Then create a custom plan to fix any problems with your bite and guide your teeth into their proper place.
The dental plan and impressions are sent off to a lab where your aligners are fabricated. You may require a series of
aligners depending on the type of corrections being made. Your first set of aligners are usually worn for a few weeks, then gradually you will be given new sets to wear and change out as your teeth improve. The series of changing trays straighten and improve your smile over time.
Aligners are typically worn anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
They are a popular alternative to regular braces, especially for working adults because they are virtually undetectable. The most common brand of clear aligners is called Invisalign. Another benefit of clear aligners over regular braces is the fact they can be removed during meals and while brushing or flossing. This makes oral hygiene much easier to manage than braces.
But clear aligners are not for everyone. Your Orthodontist will be able to determine if aligners are right for you.
