Dental Implants

If you have lost teeth due to disease, decay or injury you probably don’t feel confident with your smile. Not smiling can impact your relationships and your emotional health.

There is evidence a good smile can make you more attractive and even make you a happier person. Thanks to dental implants you can smile again without feeling self-conscience.

Permanent Tooth Loss

According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth and by the age of 74, 26% of adults will lose all their permanent teeth. It’s no wonder why dental implants are such popular cosmetic dentistry procedure.

Missing teeth can not only affect your smile and confidence but it can also affect your speech and your ability to eat certain foods.

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a long-term tooth replacement procedure that involves inserting an artificial tooth root into your jawbone to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

Dental implants typically require a 3 stage approach. The first stage involves burying the implant underneath the gum. This acts as the root which is the foundation for the dental implant. Once you are all healed from the first surgery and your dentist confirms your body has accepted the root implant, the second stage of the surgery can begin. The second phase involves penetrating the gum over the root implant so a post or abutment can be inserted into the root implant. This is the post that will eventually hold the artificial tooth or bridge. Once the post is inserted into the root implant your gums must have time to heal around the post before the final stage. When you’re all healed up your dentist will add your replacement tooth or teeth.

Due to the advancements in cosmetic dentistry, an experienced cosmetic dentist can match the exact size and color of your teeth, so your artificial teeth look identical to the rest.

Cost of Dental Implants

Dental implants are not cheap, but they’re an investment worth pursuing because missing teeth can have such a negative impact on your life. Costs vary from person to person depending on how many teeth need to be replaced and the location and experienced level of your dentist. During your initial consultation, your dentist will go over treatment plans, cost, and possible financing options.

If you can achieve any one of those things with a little cosmetic help – go for it! Life is too short to be unhappy with something as important as your smile.
