Biography

Dr. Robert Meidell is a board certified preventive cardiologist who practices in Fort Worth Texas. He was born in Gross Pointe, Michigan. He received his bachelor of science degree from Yale University in molecular biophysics and biochemistry as a holder of the Samuel F.B. Morse College Fellows Award. Dr. Meidell graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan Medical School as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed training in internal medicine at the University of Michigan, serving as the chief medical resident. He trained in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he remained on full-time faculty for 15 years.

During his tenure at UT Southwestern, Dr. Meidell acted for 10 years as the Director of the Coronary Care Unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital and was a founding faculty member for the Center for Biomedical Inventions at UT Southwestern. He has received numerous awards including the NHLBI National Research Service Award, Pfizer Post Doctoral Fellowship, Bugher Foundation Fellowship in Molecular Biology, and the American Heart Association Clinician-Scientist Award. He has served on numerous scientific committees including the Scientific Advisory Committee for the American Society of Gene Therapy, and The Research Allocations Advisory Committee for the American Heart Association Texas Affiliate.

Dr. Meidell joined Consultants in Cardiology in 2001. He has research interests in antithrombotic and thrombolytic therapy, and the pathophysiology and management of acute coronary syndromes. He serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Cardiology, and acts as an editorial reviewer for 13 additional medical journals, including CirculationScience and Journal of Clinical Investigation. Dr. Meidell is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Special clinical interests include intensive care cardiology and cardiovascular genetics.
