Tummy Tucks Are Worth Considering For The Lasting Effects of Pregnancy and Substantial Weight Loss

Between diminished skin elasticity and loss of muscle tone, it’s difficult to get motivated and even if we are motivated, exercise can do nothing for stubborn fat and the loose and flabby skin you’re left with? Though we all try, it’s impossible at times to eliminate this issue with exercise and diet alone.

The lasting effect of pregnancy and substantial weight gain can separate the abdominal muscles causing “diastasis recti” and sagging skin. Unfortunately, no amount of sit-ups, exercise, and low-carb dieting can repair your abdominal muscles. As you age, weight gathers around your midsection and before you know it the ratio of fat to lean tissue shifts. Stubborn fat storages begin to favor the upper body, rather than the hips and thighs, and aging skin decreases in volume and elasticity.

So what’s the answer for you?

Abdominal liposuction may seem like a simple alternative to having a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), but the reality is that when the abdominal muscles have been separated, liposuction alone does not tighten the abdominal muscles or the skin. The removal of abdominal fat with liposuction by itself may actually cause the appearance of the skin to look worse than it did prior to undergoing the procedure. Resulting with skin appearing more loose, saggy, and wrinkled around your abdomen.

However, a tummy tuck commonly combines contouring liposuction to eliminate the excess fat of the abdomen, love handles and hips along with the repair of the abdominal muscles by pulling them together and stitching them back into place with permanent sutures. After the abdominal muscles have been brought back together again, the skin is stretched and tightened over the abdominal muscles and the excess skin of the lower abdomen is removed. The abdominal incision is then closed. The belly button is also re-done into a more aesthetically pleasing shape during a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck takes around 3 hours and is performed under anesthesia. Full recovery typically takes 2-6 weeks.
