Any plans that require a referral is the responsibility of the member to obtain from her/his PCP (primary care physician) and bring to the first appointment. Please call the office if you have any questions regarding referrals.
Dr. Theresa Garza is a native Texan born and raised in Abilene. She attended Wylie schools in Abilene but subsequently entered the Texas Academy of Mathematics in Science (TAMS) in Denton, where she received her high school diploma and was on the Dean’s List. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin with honors. She then attended medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth.
She completed her family medicine residency at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas in 2004, joined an existing family practice group, and helped open two more family medicine clinics in the Dallas area. Dr. Garza has served as medical director for a gastric band company, in which she managed patients pre- and post-operatively including the development of aftercare programs. She has been in private practice seeing patients for weight management for approximately six years.
She has appeared numerous times on Good Morning Texas to discuss obesity and gastric banding. For over ten years, she has been working with bariatric patients with the education and treatment of obesity as well as the related co-morbid conditions.
Dr. Garza is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a guidelines-compliant member of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. She is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and Obesity Action Coalition. She is also an affiliate physician member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
She has two dogs, Hercules, and Phoenix.
