Ovulation Induction is a fertility treatment that greatly increases the chances of conception. Conception is an intricate process that takes several steps. The process is very quick. Many couples struggle with fertility problems. Some couples may think they are infertile and not. Sometimes timing is just off. There are all kinds of fertility treatments to help those trying to be parents. The fertility treatment chosen depends on the problems causing infertility. Sometimes it is an issue with egg production and other times it may be issues with sperm production. Whatever the case is, talking with a fertility specialist can answer a lot of your questions and get you back on track
What Defines Infertility?
Some people may think they are infertile and are not. There are guidelines you have to meet before you are considered infertile. The primary guideline is not being able to get pregnant after trying for a year. The key word is trying. If you are using contraceptive methods even a few times, you cannot be considered infertile. You may think having unprotected sex is all you need before you get pregnant. That is not the case at all. You may not have sex during times of ovulation. If there is no egg there, you cannot get pregnant. After you try for a year and do not have success, it is at this point you should talk to a fertility specialist. They will run tests to make sure you both are healthy. They will do a sperm count and also check the uterus for any abnormalities. About 50% of fertility issues are a result of women’s reproductive health. About 35% is a result of men’s sperm count. 10% have unexplained problems, and about 5% have unusual problems. After analyzing the cause of the problem, a physician can begin to work on treatment options for you.
Ovulation induction is used primarily for women struggling with infertility due to low hormone levels or a lack of ovulation. Ovulation induction can be used in conjunction with artificial insemination. Ovulation induction is a process which improves ovary production. There are several different hormones involved in the ovulation process. Some women do not produce enough hormones for proper egg production. Ovulation induction helps increase hormone levels in the hope you will start ovulating. You do not go into the office and just get inseminated. There are several steps to the process.
The first step in ovulation induction is taking blood samples. Hormone levels can be monitored through the blood. The reproductive cycle is an ongoing process. If you are not on your period you either just got off or about to be back on. Your hormone levels are always changing and shifting. The doctor takes your blood during each stage of your ovulation cycle. The doctor can assess whether or not you are producing enough of each hormone. The next step is to do a transvaginal ultrasound. This type of ultrasound is not always comfortable because the probe has to be put inside the vagina rather than on the outside. The probe checks the development of the follicles in the ovaries. It also analyzes the womb. If the lining of the womb looks abnormal or is not thick enough, that may be the cause of the infertility problems.
Ovulation Induction Process
The ovulation induction process is dependent upon your cycle. Paying attention to ovulation is crucial during this time. The first day of your menstrual cycle, you must call your clinic to arrange a blood test. On the fourth day of your cycle, you are given medication to help with ovulation. Day 10, you are to go for another blood test. Hormones are checked again. Day 14, you go in for your ultrasound. The ultrasound shows ovulation. If ovulation is an issue, you may have to come later than 14 days. A doctor will inject you with a few hormones. The first helps with unexplained infertility and the second increases the follicle stimulating hormone.
The final step in the process is the insemination process. The doctor may suggest you just go home and have sex. Some doctors will do artificial insemination if other issues may involve the womb or even sperm count. Before the insemination process, the physician takes the semen and separates it. The fluid is separated from the sperm. A catheter is used to take the sperm and inject it into the uterus. Artificial insemination increases chances of conception even more.
Ovulation induction is a great fertility treatment. It is not as expensive as some other forms of fertility treatments. It is useful for those who have trouble with pregnancy due to ovulation problems. It may also help when there are issues with sperm production as well. Being able to mix ovulation induction with artificial insemination only increases your chances of conception.
