Mommy Makeover

Did I Do That?

Mommy MakeoverWe all seem to face the same body issues and fears after having a baby – our body is not the same as it used to be.  Having a child is a beautiful gift! Your whole life changes as well as your body. Things are not tucked as tightly; there are skin and fat deposits that were not there before.  If you are experiencing the after effects of giving birth to a bundle of joy, fear not, a mommy makeover may be exactly what you need.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is any combination of plastic procedures to help you return to your pre-pregnancy body. You may need a bit of liposuction and skin removal or possibly a full abdominoplasty where your surgeon will tighten up your abdominal wall. Combine either one of these with a breast lift or breast augmentation and you’re ready for the beach again.

Given that 1.4 million cosmetic surgical procedures were performed in 2013 alone according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2013 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report, it’s no wonder that body contouring is so popular for women, post pregnancy.

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck – A tummy tuck is the first and foremost procedure that mom’s look at, along with one of the other choices listed above. A full abdominoplasty addresses not just the excess skin surrounding your mid-section it also addresses your abdominal wall that was stretched giving you the pouch that won’t go away with exercise.

Breast Augmentation – If you are like most moms, you have lost breast volume from breastfeeding, the overall shape of your breasts has changed loosing upper pole fullness. To achieve that fullness again a breast augmentation would be your answer if your breasts have not dropped below your inframammary fold.

Breast Lift – Breast lift procedures are performed when the center of your nipple is falling below your inframammary fold – the crease under your breasts. This is called ptosis and is graded on a 1-4 scale. The higher the degree of ptosis or droopiness you have you would be a candidate for this procedure. There are also several different breast lift procedures. If you have a grade 1 or 2 ptosis, then you might just need a nipple lift, a simple procedure removing excess skin raising the nipple to its normal position. Or possibly you need a full breast lift or mastopexy requiring what’s called an anchor keyhole approach. Discuss your options with your surgeon. Measurements don’t lie.

Breast Reduction – If you’re someone who has been plagued by larger breasts, pregnancy may cause them to get even larger.  Sorry…  Nothing is worse than trying to exercise and get your body back in shape, but you are still dealing with heavy breasts. There are several approaches to breast reduction such as liposuction breast reduction or a full approach where your surgeon is removing both skin and excess fat cells. Whatever the case, a breast reduction would probably be right for you.

Liposuction – If you have areas of unwanted, disproportionate areas of fat deposits, and you are ready to have your body be proportionate liposuction is your answer. Nothing can be more rewarding than waking up to have those excess fat deposits gone.

Recovery from a Mommy Makeover

You will need help. Even without children running around your house you would need help. Seek the assistance of your husband, friend, mom, mother-in-law for several weeks. A full abdominoplasty can take up to a month to heal, while a breast lift with or without an augmentation is a weekend to a week recovery process. The plus is someone else does the vacuuming for six weeks, and you end up with a flat abdomen! What more could a girl ask for?

Average Cost of Mommy Makeover

Depending on the combination of procedures you and your surgeon agree on, the average cost for a mommy makeover is approximate $14,000 depending on the area of the country you live in.
