UNDERSTANDING LIPOSUCTION

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures today is Liposuction due to small, “hidden” scars, minimal downtime, and gratifying results, provided you are a good candidate. So, you ask, “What makes a good candidate?” Let’s answer a few questions….

  • Are you within 5-10 pounds of your ideal/goal weight?
  • Do you have one or more areas that no matter how much weight you lose, those areas remain the same? (We all do!)
  • Do you have good skin tone? ( Skin that is not loose or sagging)

If you answered “yes” to all three questions, then do the “Pinch Test”. Can you pinch at least an inch of fat? If so, it sounds like you would be an ideal candidate for Liposuction!

The 5 most common areas suctioned are what we call the “Big Five”…abdomen, hips, flanks, inner/outer thighs, and knees. It is important to know that Liposuction does not address cellulite and scientifically speaking, there is not anything that does so do not waste your money.

Dr. Wilcox uses an Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction technique or UAL. This method is much gentler on the body than traditional Liposuction and much safer than laser assisted Liposuction which can leave the skin with a permanently wrinkled appearance, especially on the abdomen.

It is very common to have multiple areas of the body done in one surgery and more economical as well. A compression garment is worn for a predetermined period of time during the recovery phase and pain is on the lower end of the scale as far as surgeries go. The patient mostly experiences soreness, bruising and swelling which after a few weeks dissipates.

So, what’s stopping you?

P.S. If you answered “no” to any of the above questions, do not lose heart! There are other procedures that can help you achieve your cosmetic goals. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Wilcox today for your consultation so you can move one step closer to a sleeker, slimmer you.
