First off, let’s think about all the ingredients in soda to why we need to keep kids off soda. Citric Acid, Phosphorous, Aspartame, and Caffeine, just to name a few. Kids who drink soda regularly are prone to behavioral problems, showing increased aggression, withdrawal, and difficulty paying attention. Beyond behavior, there are several health risks too.

The Journal of Pediatrics  Study on the Correlation of Soda Consumption and Aggressive Behavior in Kids

  • 43% of the children participating in the study drank at least one can of soda a day.
  • 5% of the group drank several cans of soda a day.
  • The conclusion was that there was a direct correlation between soda consumption and aggression in children.
  • The kids were destroying each other’s possessions and getting into fights with one another.

Studies show a strong link between soda consumption and childhood obesity

  • Soda has no nutrients but is high in sugar and calories.
  • While it may suppress their appetite, they are left without getting proper nutrients, especially usually not enough Vitamin A, calcium, or magnesium.
  • Phosphorous can even deplete bones of their calcium, which usually ends up being a greater problem with teenage girls than anyone else.

When it comes to healthy teeth

  • Soda is not on your side!
  • The high levels of sugar promote tooth decay, along with the acid in soda, which etches away at your enamel.
  • In fact, the acid in soda can even dissolve tooth enamel in 20 minutes!

Caffeine is another culprit

  • Its nature can create a physical dependence on it, and it also interferes with children’s brain development.
  • What caffeine does is stimulate the adrenal gland, but it’s not providing the nourishment it needs.
  • If drinking significant amounts of soda (and caffeine), the adrenal gland can become exhausted in children’s bodies.

The high levels of sugar in soda can lead to blood disorders including diabetes

  • If it is a diet soda, aspartame is a culprit too!
  • Aspartame can be a potent toxin to the brain and can also lead an imbalance in the endocrine system.

Another ingredient often found in soda is citric acid

  • Traces of MSG that is toxic to the brain!
  • The distinct flavors found in soft drinks contain traces of MSG as well.

Hopefully, this wealth of information has convinced you to discourage too much soda consumption in your children or loved ones.  With all the different ingredients in soda, children’s stomachs can be left inflamed and unbalanced.  These seemingly harmless drinks can also lead to behavioral issues and trouble focusing.
