Yes, in short, the bare minimum you should see after a doctor’s name is the MD or DO, meaning they are board certified in dermatology. Furthermore, you can check to see if they have hospital privileges or any academic appointments to further signal they are a qualified specialist. Don’t assume everyone is as qualified as they seem! Many people do not have specific training to test, diagnose and treat certain skin conditions.

In order to help your doctor, bring in any topical creams and medication that you are using, whether these things are helpful or not. This will help your doctor and save your potential time and money.
“Doctor Hopping” Can Make Your Doctors Job More Difficult
It’s definitely fine to choose another doctor if you did not like your first experience with someone. But after that, try to stay with a doctor on a more long-term basis. This will help them treat you in a thorough manner and learn your health history.
Look Out For Spots That Look Different From Others
If a spot is painful, changes sizes, bleeds, or looks different from other skin spots, don’t wait to see a doctor. These could all be signs of skin cancer.
